Terms of service

Karuta is an application for studying languages with flashcards, with a public side where users share their own decks. It is provided by Riccardo Senes.

The service is free to use. There is an optional subscription that lifts some limits.

Studying needs no account. One is needed to synchronise across devices and for the community side.

Sign-in happens through Google. You are responsible for what happens from your account, and the username you choose must be free and not misleading.

The decks you create are yours. By publishing one you grant permission to host it, display it and let other users import it within Karuta: without that permission publishing could not work. No other use.

The permission ends when you withdraw the deck, with one practical limit: copies others have already imported stay on their devices, because at that point they are their copies.

Only publish content you are allowed to publish. No material under somebody else's copyright, no personal data belonging to other people, nothing illegal, abusive or meant to harass.

To keep the catalogue clean there are two limits, enforced by the app:

• A maximum of three published decks per account.
• A wait of one hour between one publication and the next.

Any published deck can be reported from the app. Reports are read, and a deck can be placed under review or removed from the catalogue.

An account that repeatedly publishes content breaking these rules can be suspended. If you think that was a mistake, write to support.karuta@gmail.com: decisions can be revisited.

The subscription is optional and can be bought through the channels Karuta makes available. Price, renewal period and how to cancel are shown before you confirm, and you cancel from the same channel you bought through: it runs until the end of the period already paid for.

Karuta never handles your card details: payment goes through the service running that channel, which applies its own terms for billing and refunds.

If the subscription ends, content beyond the free limits is not deleted: it stays readable, but creating new content past those limits needs an active subscription.

Karuta is an independent project, carried on by one person. Care goes into it, but there is no guarantee that it will always be reachable, free of errors, or permanent.

Keep your own copies: from the app you can export your decks and make a full backup at any time. It is the best protection, and it does not depend on us.

You can delete your account whenever you like, from Settings. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

Should the service ever shut down, there will be reasonable notice and time to export your data.

Italian law applies. If you are a consumer, the protections given by the law of your country of residence still stand.
